A mini-shoot with Karen

June 26th, 2010

I wanted to get some more shots of Karen when we took Zachary out to the Everglades yesterday since she could use some new headshots, but it didn’t really work out. So today, just after Karen put Zachary down for his nap, I asked Karen if she’d like to do a quick mini-shoot.

Karen likes moody and creative photos, I mean even her photography studio is called Karen Lisa’s Artistic Photography (emphasis mine), so that was my aim. Truth be told; I do too. It’s really interesting seeing Karen and my work on the same shoot because it’s clear we go in different directions… we have a common “traditional” style, but then our creativity takes us in separate directions. That’s exactly why we both have our own photography brands, so we can focus on those paths and see where they take our craft.

This one harks back to my old film photography, even reminiscent of a fun shot I captured of my glowing wife-to-be on the day we met using sexy b&w Ilford 3200 film.

A classic stare right into the lense

This one was an accident, but I always love motion blur and I love the feel…

And finally, just because she needs some more traditional headshots (that was the point of the shoot after all), here we go:

My beautiful wife keeps getting more stunning all the time.

Sunset at the Everglades

June 26th, 2010

Zachary, Karen, and I went to watch the sunset on the edge of the Florida Everglades, just a few miles from our house. With the 4th of July coming up, I thought it would be fun to introduce Zachary to the American flag, which was made all the more fun by the wind that picked up just before sunset. As can happen here, some clouds formed on the horizon just before sunset, so it got dark quick and wasn’t as cool as it could have been, but we still had a lot of fun.

Zachary is one cool kid! He loves his hat and sunglasses and anything to do with music. I’m not sure if he prefers piano or guitar at this point, as he loves playing both at home. It’s going to be fun to expose him to various instruments as he gets older (as long as they aren’t drums or the saxophone!).

Alissa & Serban’s Winter Wedding at the Parkland Country Club

April 27th, 2010

I had a great time photographing Alissa & Serban’s wedding at the Parkland Country Club! The location was beautiful, the decor was simply elegant, the couple was gorgeous, and the party didn’t stop all night long!

Karen and Alissa have become good friends in the past year that Alissa has been planning the wedding, so it was even more fun to photograph the event with her on her friends’ special day. You can see Karen’s full collage & recap over at her blog.

Here are a few of my favorites from Alissa & Serban’s beautiful wedding day:

Maggie & Sean’s Rockabilly Wedding at the Spanish River Library

Maggie & Sean had a very unique, rockabilly & Irish pub themed wedding at the Spanish River Library in Boca Raton. Their wedding showed off their vintage style and the couple even had a blast tending bar themselves for their guests towards the end of the night!

I photographed this wedding with Karen, and you can see a full recap of the wedding over at her blog.

Here are a few highlights:

Stephanie & Scot’s San Diego Wedding

We traveled to San Diego to photograph my cousin Stephanie’s wedding to her fiance, Scot! Their wedding was oceanside in La Jolla and everyone had a great time together. It was a lot of fun photographing our cousin’s wedding!

I photographed this with Karen, and  you can check out the full collage over at her blog. Here are some of my favorites:

Natalie & Joe’s Chicago Wedding

November 4th, 2009

Natalie & Joe had a beautiful wedding in the town of Bourbonnais about an hour south of Chicago. It was fun shooting them in such a different environment than South Florida. Plus the weather was so much cooler in Illinois in June, that we were able to spend quite a bit of time outdoors taking photos!

This wedding was also photographed with Karen, and you can check out a full collage of images on her blog.

Amy & Thomas’ Wedding at the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne

September 15th, 2009

Amy and Thomas had a beautiful wedding down at the Ritz Carlton in Key Biscayne, FL. The couple had a very personal ceremony officiated by the groom’s father, and their wedding was attended only by family & close friends. The groom, Thomas, had just graduated from military school, so he wore his Marines dress uniform for the special occasion.

This wedding was shot with Karen, so you can see the full post over at her blog.
